Backlit is out of beta

The closed beta is over. As of today, Backlit is a full production system, open to everyone. No invite, no waitlist.

If you’ve built an app with Claude or ChatGPT and wondered how to get it off your screen and into someone else’s hands, that’s the whole product. Your assistant publishes it to Backlit and you get a live link with sign-in and saved data already wired in.

What’s live today

Everything we ran through the beta is now generally available:

The MCP server at https://mcp.backlit.run/mcp. Add it to Claude or ChatGPT as a custom connector and your assistant can create, publish, and manage glows from inside the chat.

The deploy API, documented at sdk.backlit.run. Versioned deploys, instant rollback, per-glow keys.

Lens, Ember, and Prism: sign-in with magic link, Google, or Microsoft, with viewer, member, and admin roles; four data stores (shared, per-user, shared-post, and write-only); custom subdomains and domains on paid plans.

Two regions, Australia and the US. Your users’ data is pinned to one and never crosses.

What the beta changed

A small group of builders spent the last few weeks publishing real apps: team trackers, family tools, client-facing forms. They found the rough edges so you don’t have to. The biggest fixes that came out of it: clearer connect instructions, faster cold publishes, and better behaviour when an open chat hasn’t noticed a new connector yet.

One practical note from that work. When you add the deploy host to Claude’s domain allowlist, use glow.backlit.run, just the host. Claude rejects the full https:// form.

Pricing is live too

Plans are now active. Spark is free forever and ships a private app with sign-in and all four data surfaces. Beam is $2.50 a month for a custom subdomain and a bigger allowlist. Flood is $10 a month for public apps and custom domains. You pick your plan in the Backlit console.

The price stays low for a simple reason: nothing AI runs in your live app. The assistant builds it, Backlit hosts it. You don’t pay per token to serve a to-do list.
